This week I mainly was focusing on getting into the other lab networks. I found that I accidentally skipped an important short section that talks about port forwarding, dynamic proxies, ssh tunneling, and a few other things. One one lab machine, there is something that is hinted at that required a few things in that section in order to get more information. It look a long time, but I was finally able to understand the communication between certain things in the lab and how it can be taken advantage of. I was only able to root two machines, but I think understanding that process is going to help when I go back over some of the other machines I didn’t deeply look into after getting root. Also, I am still not entirely sure where the network secret file is in order to officially unlock the network.
Progress wise, I think that I am far behind where I imagined I would be. I think that it’s due to a lack of actually understanding a lot of the things in the lab, what they do, and how they work (particularlly AD environments). A lot of the time I just get very stuck and have no idea what to look at or even search. My guess is that I won’t do that well on the exam, and will most likely have to get more lab time, but I think taking a break and practicing a lot more before I start my next attempt will be the best way to approach it. I scheduled my exam for December 10th, so I have nearly a month until then.
